    Vijay is a researcher/developer with 4 years of experience at Synopsys, developing constraint solvers, orchestration software and formal verification products. At UIUC, he worked in the areas of parallel computing, quantitative analysis of systems, and program synthesis. As part of his thesis work, he proposed scalability metrics to quantify energy-performance trade-offs in parallel applications.

    Naveen is the founder and CEO of Nervana Systems. Fascinated by synthetic and biological computation as a kid, he trained and worked as both a computer architect and neuroscientist. He founded Nervana to use biological inspiration and take computation in new directions.

    Urs has over 9 years of research experience in machine learning, spanning areas from computer vision and image processing to large scale neural data analysis. His data science experience ranges from working with national laboratories in applying deep learning to understand climate change, to helping customers solve challenging computer vision problems in medical imaging. Urs works on making the fastest implementations of convolutional and recurrent networks. For his postdoc at UC Berkeley, he used unsupervised machine learning algorithms such as Restricted Boltzmann Machines to understand the visual system.

    Amir has worked in technology and finance. He has a research background in machine learning, neuroscience, and distributed computing. He started his career trading derivatives and has worked at a number of successful technology startups.

    Arjun is the founder and VP Algorithms (Heading ML/DL & Data Science) at Nervana. His prior work has spanned neurophysiology and large scale machine learning. His interests are artificial intelligence, virtual reality, brain-machine interfaces, entrepreneurship, and tennis.

    Carey is the VP of Hardware at Nervana. He has been working in the chip industry since 1996 at both startups and public companies. He’s excited to bring new and innovative silicon technology to deep learning.

    PLATFORM ARCHITECT DIRECTOR
    Prior to Nervana, Carlos worked as an architect at Cisco Systems, where he focused on topics such as cross-platform infrastructure security and Fog Computing. Over the span of his career, Carlos has been fortunate enough to be involved with the development of software and hardware at every level from microcode to datacenter-scale orchestration suites. He is excited to leverage his experience in the deep learning space.

    Prashant has designed networking and video processing chips for fifteen years. At Nervana, he's engaged in the creation of future computation architectures. Prashant enjoys tennis, hiking, crosswords and podcasts.

    Olivia brings over 22 years of experience in ASIC/SoC architecture, design and methodology from multiple large companies and venture-backed startups including Cisco, Procket Networks, Sun Microsystems and Intel. She was the architect and design lead for multiple successful state-of-the-art enterprise server microprocessors and bleeding edge multi-core network processors for terabit routers.

    Luke Hornof is the Director of Software at Nervana Systems. He has a Ph.D. in Computer Science and did research in programming languages before moving to Silicon Valley, where he's developed software for several technology companies including Transmeta, Sun Microsystems, and Pandora.

    Fiaz Mohamed leads business development at Nervana Systems. He has previously held senior sales, marketing and business development roles at several successful enterprise software companies and also advised clients in the technology sector on growth and go-to-market strategy as a management consultant.

    Mark first recognized the potential for computers to solve difficult problems in high school, when he wrote a program to find dates to the dance for himself and his friends. Mark studied EE/CS and neural networks at Cornell and Caltech and received an MBA from Harvard. He has been a product exec at several software companies and was co-founder/CEO of a social networking startup.

    Igor is a veteran Python/C++ developer who used to work for companies such as Sony and BitTorrent, focusing on backend APIs and cryptography. He spends his free time drinking microbrews, playing Dungeon Crawl, and attempting to make music in Reason in an effort to become a trashy Jungle producer.

    Julie Shin Choi joins Nervana as Head of Marketing. She most recently led marketing for Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s Machine Learning Cloud Platform, Haven OnDemand as well as developer and product marketing for Mozilla, Yahoo, and others. She has a Bachelors from MIT and Masters from Stanford and is always down for a slow long distance run.

    Mayank is a systems software engineer with 8 years of experience at NVIDIA, developing GPU device drivers and the CUDA source debugger for Fermi, Kepler and Maxwell families of NVIDIA GPUs. He also led the effort to port the CUDA debugger and profiler to NVIDIA Tegra K1 and Tegra X1 SoCs on mobile platforms like Android.

    Jessica is a graduate from USC with a degree in Psychology with a business emphasis. Her studies were focused on the nature of interpersonal relations, consumer behavior, product design, and market research. She thrives on adventure and creativity and her values and hobbies revolve around bridging the gap between the two. When she isn’t exploring new ways to market Nervana and managing its business operations, she’s likely traveling to a place she’s never been, designing websites, or training for an upcoming race.

    Brian is an engineer working in the Systems Software team at Nervana. He hails from the world of computer graphics, where he has held positions at NVIDIA and Samsung Research as an OpenGL driver engineer for several years. He's excited to enter the new field of deep learning and hoping to make an impact on this emerging technology.

    Jennifer has 20 years experience leading software engineering at both startups and large companies - spanning networking, security, video and search. She created her first neural networks at Carnegie Mellon in 1987, holds a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Northwestern where she built recurrent neural networks for her thesis, and she is thrilled to be advancing her original field of study once again.

    Ryan has over a decade of experience designing, building, managing, and updating IT and network infrastructure. Prior to joining Nervana, Ryan designed and implemented a cluster-computing network for a stealth-startup that runs complex data models using machine learning.

    Zach has a wide range of experience from 7 years at PlotWatt, where he applied neural networks and machine learning to energy analysis problems resulting in state of the art performance in non-intrusive load monitoring. As the first employee and later CTO at PlotWatt he gained a wide variety of experience ranging from web development and dev-ops to machine learning and data science.

    Sathish is a recent Stanford graduate where he did research in Andrew Ng’s machine learning group. He is very entrepreneurial, has great design sense, and has experience across the entire engineering stack from hardware to software. He is really interested in art, design, AI, travel, movies, and Baltimore Ravens football.

    Anna has more than 15 years of experience on ASIC/SOC verification. Prior to joining Intel Nervana, she worked for Oracle, Cisco, Sun Micro, and several startup companies. When she isn’t at the office, she enjoys dancing, singing, and sports. She has studied Latin dance for over 5 years and is a gold level dance competitor.

    Christian is a software engineer with more than 10 years of experience working on low-level system software, such as device drivers, the Linux kernel and firmware, at NVIDIA and Google. For many years, he was a key engineer behind the cross-platform kernel-level component of NVIDIA’s GPU driver stack.

    Hanlin has applied machine learning and data science across multiple domains, including computational neuroscience, proteomics, and defense policy. Prior to his graduate work on recurrent neural networks for object recognition, he built models and performed analyses for several defense and intelligence agencies while at the RAND Corporation.

    Alex has 12 years of experience in machine learning and quantitative modeling both in research and industry. His doctoral research, advised by Dr. James Glass, focused on the problem of word acquisition from unlabeled data. After MIT, Alex joined Tower Research Capital as a quantitative trader, where he developed automated algorithms for modeling and trading equities.

    Larry Pollack brings over 30 years of management and practitioner experience in software development, software quality, and quality systems. Mr. Pollack has been responsible for software development, testing, and quality engineering in enterprise, defense, life sciences, and communications markets at Fortune 500 companies such as Intel and L-3 Communications, as well as several successful startups.

    Joseph is a software engineer with over 15 years of experience in GPU companies including 3dfx, NVIDIA, and Samsung. He specializes in developing OpenGL drivers on the Linux platform.

    Jeff has 20 years of experience doing ASIC development in fault-tolerant computing and networking. Projects ranged from redundant and fault tolerant enterprise storage to high end switching and routing products. Most recently as a Technical Leader at Cisco, he led the verification of enterprise grade ethernet switching 28nm ASICs and SoCs.

    Horace has over 17 years of experience in the semiconductor industry with Silicon Valley brands like Silicon Graphics (SGI), MIPS and Broadcom. He has been a significant contributor to successful products ranging from high performance embedded processors to multi-terabit ethernet switches. In his spare time, he likes reading about current events, new technology/business trends and investment strategies.

    Bob has a wide range of experience in architecting and building complex software projects. He has worked on the design and implementation of several cellular network standards, domain specific languages for large scale neural network layout and simulation, as well as machine learning libraries for computational photography on embedded platforms.

    Stephen has a special place in his heart for large-scale web infrastructure, which he developed by leading infrastructure teams at eBay and Cloudscaling and fills today by running Cloud DevOps at Nervana. When his laptop is closed, Stephen can be found boxing, reading, eating sushi, and gushing about Bitcoin.

    Yinyin has over ten years of experience in developing neural models and learning algorithms, applying computational neuroscience, and machine learning to solve problems in areas including image recognition, reinforcement learning and robotics.     Pantelis has over 20 years of experience in the financial industry. He was Managing Director at Morgan Stanley, where he headed Core Analytics in Sales and Trading. Prior to this, he was a Vice President at Goldman, Sachs, where he headed teams of Core Strategists in Sales and Trading.

    Jason is a passionate engineer and computational biologist. His experience includes designing hierarchical Bayesian statistical models for classification of biological datasets, implementing and optimizing MCMC techniques for torturous energy landscapes, and engineering large distributed data processing systems on top of Apache Spark and Kubernetes. His other interests include cryptocurrencies, programming languages, and pairing active learning with cloud biology.

    Steven is a Python developer with experience building enterprise-grade software; he previously had roles at San Francisco startup Wake and transit company Unitrans in Davis. He is comfortable working on all parts of the stack but specializes in backend development. In his free time he enjoys discovering great beer, hanging out with friends, and spending time at the beach.

    Katie Fritsch is on the marketing and business development team at Nervana. She is a born and bred athlete, and secured qualification to the US Olympic Trials in swimming. She loves competition and being challenged on a daily basis. When she is not crushing it at Nervana, you can find her cycling or running her dogs outdoors. She created Silicon Valley's premier Hacker House experience, and worked at Palantir and GoogleX prior to joining Nervana.

    Andrew has more than 15 years of experience in semiconductor development and design at a variety of venture-backed startups and public companies including AMD, Sun Microsystems, and Cavium. He has successfully taped out multiple projects in areas ranging from high-end enterprise to consumer-grade equipment for applications in networking, computing, video compression, and video distribution.

    Amish has 15 years of ASIC design and verification experience in both small venture-backed startups and large established companies including eInfochips, Aquantia, and Broadcom. His experience ranges from verification IP development & support to full-chip testbench design in a variety of product spaces including ethernet, networking products, digital mobile TV and others.

    Ruby has a Masters from MIT and five years of national laboratory experience in applied math research, signal processing, systems engineering and software development for high impact government missions. Most recently, she has been working on sequence to sequence and deep autoencoder models. Outside of work she enjoys tabletop games and hiking.

He has developed consumer, enterprise and industrial grade system products including network storage router, HD video surveillance system, HD security camera, wireless display TV dongle, and 4G-LTE small cell system.

    Tyler has over eight years of experience studying computational neuroscience. He received a PhD in neuroscience in June 2016 from UC Berkeley where he studied how the brains of zebra finches listen to individual birds in a noisy colony. To tackle this problem of auditory scene analysis, he performed neurophysiological recordings and developed neural networks-based computational methods. At Nervana, he is focused on using deep learning for sound processing tasks and is fascinated by the possibilities for extracting hierarchical structure from temporal signals.

    Thomas is one of those unique people who can design user interfaces, lock in the user experience and make it all work together with the latest web technologies. He got his start in advertising creating impactful brand and visual campaigns. Thomas spends his spare time building creations with raspberry pi’s, sensors and all forms of gadgetry.

    Tony is a published expert in ASIC design and brings 17 years of experience from Hitachi, ATI, Cisco, and multiple venture-backed startups. His projects have ranged from embedded processor architectures to high-performance switching and routing ASICs for enterprise applications.

    Hao is a hardware engineer with 4 years of experience in the semiconductor industry. His projects have ranged from enterprise storage device, cutting edge switch products and multicore CPU subsystem. Most recently as a staff engineer at Broadcom, he played a key role in building up verification environment for multi-terabit ethernet switches.

    Brooks Ensign is the Controller at Nervana Systems. He has an MBA from Harvard Business School and has served in finance, accounting, and business development roles with both startups and public companies. He teaches finance and data analytics courses as an adjunct university instructor. In his free time, he is learning about Python and Deep Learning with various online courses.

    Stewart is a software engineer with extensive experience in GPU programming and architecture. He spent over 2 years at Qualcomm working on architecture and modeling for the Adreno series of mobile GPUs. Recently he was responsible for development of Qualcomm’s internal kernel-mode driver used for pre-silicon GPU verification.

    Yixing is passionate about machine learning systems and its applications. He interned at Nervana a year ago contributing to neon's computation backends. After his recent graduation, he is making a comeback at Nervana, developing the next generation of neon.

    Will has over four years of experience at Qualcomm developing software for autonomous robots, neural networks, computer vision applications and event-based neuromorphic sensors. He enjoys working with interdisciplinary teams solving complex problems in software and hardware.

    Aravind is a tech lead experienced in building scalable distributed systems for real time query processing and high performance computing. He was a technology lead at NVIDIA where he was the founding engineer on the team that built the world’s first debugger for massively parallel processors. Aravind has previously founded revenue generating startups for enterprises and consumer markets in the domains of machine learning and computer vision.

    Scott has over nine years experience creating machine learning based solutions to solve large-scale, real-world problems. At Nervana, Scott’s a member of the Algo team, with one foot in the Cloud. Inside of work he can often be found pushing and reviewing code. Outside of work he can often be found running long distances and quaffing local craft beer (occasionally simultaneously).

    Long ago, when neon was used for indicator lights, Scott saw the Sylvania UDOFFT vacuum tube computer being used for a submarine simulator. A man pulled a circuit board from a glowing orange wall, and Scott decided that he wanted to do that when he grew up. After years of training by working on the implementations of languages, operating systems, databases, application frameworks, speech recognition and natural language processing, Scott has finally been able to work on Neon.
